KRISTEN RADTKE - ART DIRECTION

In 2022, design teams at Vox were hard at work crafting the next evolution of The Verge’s branding and website. As Senior Illustrator, I was tasked with refreshing our house style to fit the new direction.

Before we started designing we first gathered data on the types of stories we publish and divided them into categories. We then developed graphic treatments that best fit each category. A majority of posts at The Verge fell under ‘Brand Stock’ - images that are based on the logos of companies we cover. The Verge was moving in a bold direction and I wanted to reflect that in the stock treatment.

I analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of our previous house style and replaced fine detail, layered effects, and complex compositions with large, simple, and bold imagery.

Once we had a direction, I then created a searchable library of hundreds of images that Editorial could use on day one of the re-launch.
